About
About Balds
Balds is an independent website about hair loss. We publish plain-language explanations of why hair thins, sheds and recedes, what the named conditions are, what the options involve, and what life with hair loss is like. Nothing on this site is for sale.
Who writes this site, and how
Articles on Balds are drafted with AI assistance and published under a fixed editorial standard. We would rather tell you that directly than let you assume otherwise. Nobody here is a doctor, dermatologist, trichologist or surgeon, and we do not claim any medical qualification.
What makes the writing trustworthy is not a byline but the sourcing. Every factual claim is tied to a named source, such as the American Academy of Dermatology, the NHS, MedlinePlus, NIAMS or DermNet, and the sources are listed and linked at the foot of each page. Before an article is published, every number in it is checked automatically against the text of the source it cites. Our editorial policy sets out the whole process, including how we handle corrections.
When something requires clinical judgment, and with hair loss a great deal of it does, we say so and point you toward the kind of professional who can help.
What we will not do
These are commitments, and every article is checked against them.
- We do not promise regrowth. No article will tell you that something will bring your hair back, or how much, or how fast.
- We do not rank treatments or recommend products. We explain what each option involves and report what the medical sources say about it, attributed and linked. We never order options by how well they work, and we never name a brand as the one to buy.
- We do not recommend doses or medicines. Anything that needs a prescription needs a prescriber.
- We do not sell anything, and we take no payment for coverage. The site is supported by advertising, disclosed in our privacy policy. Advertisers have no say in what we write.
- We do not use before-and-after framing. No transformation photos and no treating a bald head as a problem that must be solved. Plenty of people lose their hair and are fine about it.
- We do not invent evidence. No made-up statistics, studies or credentials.
Information, not medical advice
Everything here is general educational information. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan, and not a substitute for care from a clinician who can examine your scalp and knows your history. Sudden shedding, patchy bald spots, a painful or scaly scalp, or hair loss alongside other unexplained symptoms are reasons to see a doctor rather than a website. Scarring forms of hair loss can become permanent while someone waits, so early assessment matters.
About the pictures
The diagrams on Balds, such as the scalp map, the hair cycle and the Norwood and Ludwig scales, are drawn for this site from the descriptions in the sources named in their captions. Photographs come from Pexels and are credited where they appear. We do not use generated images of people, and we never show before-and-after pictures.
A note on this site's history
Balds launched in July 2026 with a large set of articles published at once. In October 2026 every article was rewritten from primary medical sources, some overlapping articles were merged, and the site was rebuilt. Each article keeps its original publication date and shows the date it was rewritten.
