About Balds

Balds is an independent website about hair loss. We publish plain-language explanations of why hair thins, sheds and recedes, what the named conditions actually are, what the available options involve, and what life with hair loss is genuinely like. Nothing on this site is for sale.

Who writes this site

Balds is written and edited by the Balds Editorial Team. We are writers and editors, not doctors, dermatologists, trichologists or surgeons, and we do not claim any medical qualification. When something requires clinical judgement — and with hair loss a great deal of it does — we say so and point you toward the kind of professional who can actually help.

We think that is worth stating openly, because hair loss is a field crowded with people whose expertise is really a sales pitch. We would rather be clear about what we are than borrow authority we have not earned.

What we will not do

These are commitments, not marketing copy. Every article on this site is written against them:

  • We do not promise regrowth. No article here will tell you that something will bring your hair back, or how much, or how fast. Hair responds to genetics, age, hormones, health conditions and medication — and no website can know your situation.
  • We do not claim products work. We will explain what a category of treatment is intended to do and what it involves. We will not tell you that a particular shampoo, serum, supplement, device or clinic delivers results.
  • We do not recommend doses or medications. Anything that requires a prescription requires a prescriber. We will not suggest what to take or how much.
  • We do not sell anything, and we do not take payment for coverage. The site is supported by advertising, which is disclosed in our privacy policy. Advertisers have no say in what we write.
  • We do not use before-and-after framing. No transformation photos, no implied guarantees, and no treating a bald head as a problem that must be solved. Plenty of people lose their hair and are entirely fine about it. That is a legitimate outcome, not a failure.
  • We do not invent evidence. We do not fabricate statistics, studies or research findings to make a point sound stronger than it is.

Information, not medical advice

Everything here is general educational information. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan, and not a substitute for care from a qualified clinician who can examine your scalp and know your history.

Hair loss is occasionally a signal of something else — a thyroid problem, an iron deficiency, an autoimmune condition, a reaction to medication. Sudden shedding, patchy bald spots, a painful or scaly scalp, or hair loss alongside other unexplained symptoms are all reasons to see a doctor rather than a website. Scarring forms of hair loss in particular can become permanent while someone waits, so early assessment genuinely matters.

How we approach the subject

Two things guide the writing. First, most people arriving here want a straight answer to a specific question, so our articles try to give it in the opening lines rather than after six paragraphs of preamble. Second, hair loss is not only a medical topic — it is a daily, visible, personal one. We write about the practical side too: what to do with thinning hair, when people decide to shave, and how to think about the whole thing without being sold to.
